Dear brothers and sisters in the Assumption,
Yesterday, I was re-elected Superior General of the Assumptionists. The day
before the election, I was thinking of you, and now the day after you are still on my
mind. I felt somewhat uncomfortable that we Assumptionist religious should be the
only ones involved in the election of a Superior General, because it is my
conviction that the Superior General must be as accountable to you as he is to his religious confreres. I want to assure you, nonetheless,
that I will take my responsibility toward you with great seriousness and
enthusiasm.
Although the Chapter has not yet voted on the recommendations of the Committee studying
your proposals, I have no doubt that very concrete means will be set in place to assure that I
will not forget you. I don’t think there was ever much chance of that.
I wanted you tell you as quickly as possible how grateful I am for your energetic and creative
participation in the General Chapter and how much I count on your continued active
contribution to the life and mission of the Assumption.
I hope that we will put in place as soon as possible mechanisms that will foster regular
communication among you and between all of you and myself and the other religious. In any
event, you already know my e-mail address ( relamour@yahoo.com ). I hope you will all feel free to write whenever the Spirit prompts you to do so.
Now, let me ask for another favor: pray for us remaining here in Rome so that the Chapter will
end fruitfully and pray for me and will stay on even longer with a new team so that we can be
effective and faithful servants of the wishes of the Chapter.
Best wishes to all of you and to your families.
Fraternally,
Fr. Richard E. Lamoureux, a.a.
